Ridgeland, SC – State Senator Clementa Pinckney today called on his colleagues in the state Senate to pass a critical economic development bill this week. Senate Bill 1054 creates performance-based incentives for companies like the Okatie Crossing developer to locate to South Carolina.

Senator Pinckney issued the following statement on S.1054 and the importance of attracting Okatie Crossings to Jasper County:

“Okatie Crossing has the potential to be a Boeing, or a BMW, for a region of South Carolina with double-digit unemployment rates. We are talking about aggressively recruiting 2000 to 2500 new jobs and a $400 million dollar investment. This legislation is vital for our effort.

“I look forward to the continued debate this week, but the time for action is now. The sooner we pass this legislation, the sooner we can start creating jobs.”
