PRESS RELEASE: Mulvaney Outraises Spratt in 2nd Quarter

July 16th, 2010 · admin · 1 Comment

John Spratt must rely on special interest PACs and the Obama Administration as he loses support at home.

Lancaster, S.C. — State Senator Mick Mulvaney, Republican candidate for Congress (SC-5), today released the following statement after outpacing his opponent, Congressman John Spratt, in total money raised, total raised from within the district, total raised from within the state, and total raised from individuals:

“If you follow the money, it’s clear whose policies are supported by South Carolinians and whose policies are supported by DC lobbyists and the Obama Administration. As this quarter’s reports show, my campaign enjoys the backing of many more local individuals than John Spratt. At a time when Washington is making it hard for people to make ends meet, these folks have dedicated their time and money to elect responsible leadership to Congress, and I appreciate all their help.

“Mr. Spratt, on the other hand, has alienated his constituents by deciding to vote for historic government spending and a government takeover of health care. He is now a full-fledged Washington insider, and he must depend on those whom his votes benefit for his financial support: lobbyists and the Obama Administration. Now we can all see why Mr. Spratt has even asked Vice President Biden to host a fundraiser for him this week.

“My commitment to growing our economy and reducing government spending will not waver. We can push back against the big-spenders, we can restore fiscal responsibility in Washington, and we can provide a check against an overreaching Obama administration.”

Spratt’s only fundraising edge during the filing period came from “other political committees such as PACs,” where he raised $211,255 vs. Mulvaney’s $53,000. Of the approximately $1.2 million that the Congressman has on hand, almost $750,000 is from PACs.
