The Rundown
SC Statehouse Blog will be a blog strictly focused on events happening at the South Carolina statehouse. The main source of information will be from interviews with the legislators themselves with the articles focusing on the Bills and Amendments that might be of public interest. The website is unaffiliated with any party and will try its best to be unpartisan. We are just a group of college students, ranging from political science to journalism majors, who want to get involved with state politics.
Objectives
Unbiased
- Author limits the influence of his or her bias in the article to be sure to give an accurate representation of what the legislator is trying to convey
Give college students a chance to interact with politicians
- Students are mostly Journalism and Political Science majors
Give legislators another venue to get information out
- Newspapers, television programs, and other news sources often don’t cover issues as thoroughly as the legislators would want
- This site offers that extra bit of coverage the legislator might want
Articles written from legislator’s point of view
- This is the legislator’s article so there will be no political commentary from the authors
Put Bills and Amendments into layman’s terms
- The minutes and bill descriptions found on South Carolina’s Statehouse website are often filled with legal jargon and hard to understand
- This website tries to present these bills in a clear and easy way for the public to understand
Give the public the ability to chime in on their opinions on the issues
- Comment sections offer the public the ability to be part of the discussion
